Unable to communicate with ASM mirror copy if Exadata Storage Server is offline

Tonight the MOS document "(DB32) Bug 20217875 - When using normal redundancy Oracle is unable to perform I/O to an ASM mirror copy when an Exadata Storage Server is offline" from note 2057731.1 seems straightforward BUT shows how complicated ASM and Storage Servers are with even more reasons to be constantly monitoring these components!

SQL Developer hits Java GC limit while exporting

Hello everybody, I do live!  I may have taken a week off post wedding and honeymoon, but I am back now and tonight I ease into things with a rather simple issue from My Oracle Support article "GC Overhead Limit Exceeded Message In SQL Developer When Running A Query" via note ID 1634930.1 which has a deceiving title because this happens when exporting instead, but is still worth a read anyways.

12c: DB 12.1.0.2 patch 12 known issues

Did you know that the latest patch for 12.1.0.2 has known issues already?  While article "Oracle Quarterly Database Patch 12.1.0.2.12 Known Issues" found on My Oracle Support by document ID 2052715.1 has a very small issue, it makes me curious going forward about how we find these known issues bug reports in the future for other DB patches as well!

R12.1.3 Receivables: Autoinvoice gives error "The web server returned an error"

Tonight with this MOS article "Autoinvoice Import Errors with The web server returned an error" from document ID 2053754.1 it is important to notice that this affects the Autoinvoice Import (RAXTRX) AND Master (RAXMTR) programs with an unknown cause so it could happen at any time in your environment at a time you could not afford to bounce Apache services!

R12.1.3 Concurrent: Copying previous request all items are not copied

On the R12.1.3 version of EBS did you know that "When Copying A Request Set From A Previous Run, The Delivery Options And Parameters Are Not Copied"?  I learned this from MOS document ID 2055893.1 and now I need to check out if we have the indicated patch so we can avoid this problem in the future, and add this kind of testing condition to our testing suites!

Tom Kyte takes a (well deserved) break

Since Tom Kyte inspired me to start this blog, the news that he is taking a break from his Ask Tom site, and Oracle in general, for a period of time which is undetermined at this time kind of took me by surprise.  I would highly recommend you read the news article about his break, because he has a lot of great insights about where IT has come from, how Tom got started in IT, how Ask Tom even got started, and what Tom is going to be up to for the next phase of his professional life.

Workflow: Office365 as IMAP/SMTP Server produces java.io.IOException error message

Are you getting ready to migrate to Office365 with your Oracle EBS application?  Well keep in mind the MOS article "Using Office365 (outlook.office365.com) as the IMAP Server causes Validation Error Occurred. ZFS Storage Appliance and Solaris can see write performance degradation when filesystem is almost full

Tonight MOS has a surprising article in store for us as "Solaris 10, Solaris 11 and ZFS Storage Appliance (ZFSSA) Software may Experience Write Performance Degradation when ZFS Filesystem is Near Quota" from note ID 1985528.1 as an entire pool can lose performance if the poolset comes within 2GB of being totally used!  You can also find out what commands are used to check this, and if you are affected then see what patchsets are available so you can get patched up to prevent this from happening to you.
