Solaris: ZFS root pools hang system when unavailable
While we are talking about ZFS and not ZFSSA "Systems with a ZFS Root Filesystem Running Certain Solaris 10 patches or Solaris 11 SRUs may Hang if the Disks of the Root Pool Become Temporarily Unavailable" is still a good document to read on My Oracle Support from article ID 2098232.1 so you can learn what symptoms are possible on Solaris just in case this happens to your system!

Exadata disk drives in Storage Servers at risk for increased failures and performance issues
If you have Exadata in your environment I think you need to take a look at this newest MOS alert "(EX25) Disk drives in Exadata storage servers may experience increasing number of failures, unrecoverable media errors, confinement, and higher levels of read data latencies" via note ID 2073916.1 because several different versions of Exadata are affected by this issue with High Performance disk drives!

Weekend Learning: Whitepaper on validation of Diskgroups and ASM
In our efforts to get more understanding of Oracle technology for our toolbox, I suggest that you read the MOS whitepaper "How to Validate Normal or High Redundancy Diskgroups and ASM Disks Partnership (White Paper)" from article ID 1961372.1 to add to that toolbox! This really takes us step by step on the validation procedure, and makes me think of ways we can monitor this (if OEM does not take care of it!).
