Weekend Learning: Creating statistics on global temporary tables

While the note "How to Create Statistics on Global Temporary Tables" on My Oracle Support from article ID 351190.1 is talking about post 9.2.0.6 Oracle databases, it also has specific information on how this is different for 12c and introduces the idea of dynamic sampling as well!  How does this apply to you?  Well, I have seen system generated global temporary tables perform badly where you really do not have any control over it, so this could possibly give you some kind of control!

Weekend Learning: R12, Stats, and Oracle Text

Over the past few years I have been blogging, I have seen a few articles about the Oracle Text module but never paid a whole lot of attention to them because we do not have it installed.  Or so I thought.  If you have upgraded to R12 make sure that you read the MOS article "Using statistics with Oracle Text" from note ID 139979.1 because if you investigate your system you will find objects like these so any articles we find in the future about Oracle Text just may be relevant to us after all!

BONUS: I did post something related to Oracle Text at the beginning of the year, and this article has links to help you understand what Oracle Text is as well.

R12.1.3 Payables: Payment Manager performance issue after upgrade

Post upgrade to R12.1.3, there is an issue in Payables which you can find from MOS in the note "Performance Problem In Payment Manager (Payment Dashboard Page) After Database Upgrade" by way of document ID 2014319.1 where it details how several different actions can take up to a minute!  First you must gather stats, then set or remove several database parameters, and bounce to make sure it takes effect so you should check out this note to see if you need to review the parameters and then take action if so!

What is the point of Incremental Global Statistics?

Oracle 11g introduced the feature Incremental Global Statistics, but Doug Burns answers the burning question of why this new feature actually takes LONGER when you gather your statistics initially.  Interested in more about this subject?  You are in luck as he has a second post with some more information and a third post with a lot of links to other sites and people on the subject!
